Federal spending is how the federal government spends taxpayer dollars. It is divided between mandatory spending, discretionary spending, and interest on debt payments. The point of democracy is for citizens to participate in and influence their government. This is an issue because there is little to no citizen input on the federal budget. Improving democracy is an attempt to “equalize the playing field,” and giving citizens at least some choice on the federal budget would be major progress.
